3 Ways to Celebrate Canada’s 150th this Weekend with the SconeWitch

If you live anywhere in Ottawa (or, anywhere in the country really), you know that this upcoming weekend is Canada’s 150th birthday. Here in Ottawa, the party is going to be huge—there could be more than half a million people downtown on Saturday.

Whether you’re planning to join in on the revelry downtown, or running your own party outside of the core, here are 3 ways to work the SconeWitch into your Canada Day plans.

1. Get Your Order in Early

With two locations in walking distance of downtown, you can bet that the SconeWitch is going to be busy on Saturday. If you want to pick up scones to go, or are hoping to get brunch before heading out, make sure you get there early.

If you’re getting scones to go (and really, there’s no better addition to a barbecue than scones with fruit for dessert) give us a call the day before and let us know what flavours you want. That way, when you get there, your order will already be packaged up and you’ll be sure to get your favourite flavours.

2. Fuel Up for Your Day

Heading downtown? It’s going to be a long day in the sun, and you want to make sure you’re well fed and energized. A hearty breakfast will keep you going, and we’ve got just the thing.

At the SconeWitch, we have two different brunch options. The smaller, our EggWitch, is a savoury scone with the middle cut out and filled with scrambled eggs, cheese, and ham. It’s a great way to get your day going.

Hungrier than that? Then our brunch is just for you. Three scrambled eggs with a topping, a scone of your choice, jam, and fresh fruit, you’ll be set for the day.

3. Take Scones with You

What if you’re planning to get out of the city and avoid the crowds? Take scones with you!

Call us in advance and we’ll set aside the scones of your choice so you can come pick them up. Baked scones will be good for a couple days, especially if you warm them up in the oven before eating.

You can also buy our scones raw, which is ideal if you want to enjoy scones through the whole long weekend. We sell these in batches of 6 or 12, and you can get any flavours you want.

No matter what your plans are for this Canada Day, scones are an awesome addition. Come and visit us on Saturday! After all, this is Canada’s big year!
